Your Questions Answered
WHAT IS COACHING?
Coaching is a form of development, where a coach supports you (a coachee) to create learning, self‐development and improved performance in a way that benefits you.
The coach through dialogue helps the coachee (client) to correctly set a goal, to find the best way to achieve the goal and reveal hidden inner potential in a person.
Both the coachee and the coach influence the direction and content of sessions. Coaching also places real responsibility for learning on the individual and encourages learning to continue after the session.
WHAT COACHING IS NOT?
Consulting or Mentoring
A consultant or mentor advises the client by giving input in ways such as giving advice or providing them with information and suggestions.
Therapy or Counselling
This form of input can involve dealing with issues in the client’s past that are blocking them from moving forward and causing problems in their current lives. Exploring issues such as family of origin and deep emotional trauma can uncover why they behave the way they do.
HOW DOES COACHING WORK?
Coaching makes a difference when two factors are present:
1. You are willing to change and grow.
2. There is a gap between where you are now and where you want to be.
(The gap can be many things: Personal life, work life, boundary issues, fears, etc.)
